Over 92,100 wards of beedi, cine and non-coal mine workers collectively received ₹32.51 crore scholarship for the academic year 2024-25 through direct benefit transfer (DBT) under the Labour Welfare schemes.

Eligible wards will receive financial assistance of ₹25,000 each per annum for school and college education and professional courses, said the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The education component of the labour welfare scheme is implemented through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) and is administered by the Labour Welfare Organisation (LWO) in 18 regions with the Directorate General of Labour Welfare (DGLW), Ministry of Labour and Employment, at the helm.

The benefits are disbursed through DBT using the Aadhaar payment bridge (APB) method, ensuring transparency and efficiency, stated the Ministry.

Calling the disbursal of funds a landmark accomplishment, the Ministry stated that it reflects their unwavering commitment to timely and efficient service delivery, ensuring that wards of beedi, cine and non-coal mine workers receive financial assistance when they need it most. Further, it highlighted the relentless efforts and seamless coordination of Ministry officials and those from the 18 LWO regions.
